Mt. Blanc
At 4,807m, Mt. Blanc is the highest mountain in Western Europe. Situated in the Alps it is located on the border between France and Italy.
In summer the ski resort of Chamonix is the normal staging post for climbers wishing to climb Mt. Blanc from the French side of the mountain.
The route to the summit followed the ‘tourist route’ via Les Houches, Col de Vosa, Tête Rouse Hut, Gouter Hut to the summit.
In the summer of 1988 I climbed to the summit of Mt. Blanc via the above route. This was my first high altitude climb and my first experience of alpine climbing.
